Moving the PTU

Here is a simple explanation of how to re-locate the PTU to the nose - in front of the radiator.

Please read methods one & two full write-ups, for background detail.

This location entirely satisfies the main criteria for relocating the PTU in the first place, namely heat & vibration degradation. In this location, not only does the PTU run extremely cool, the bracket provide 'soft suspension', but it's easy to get at in future.

Pic shows the PTU bracketed in the nose area alongside the AFM. Note: zip ties to AFM harness are entirely optional - chafe prevention.

Steps:

1. Remove PTU from OEM position, disconnect loom and clean all connections.

2. Make bracket as per pic, and mount PTU as shown, plastic side up, large connector on left (in pic).

3. Disconnect CTS & Temp Gauge senders and withdraw PTU loom from retaining clips on front of timing cover.

4. Carefully strip back insulation on the loom so as to remove the CTS & Temp Gauge wires from PTU wiring.
It is necessary to strip back as far as to permit the now seperated looms to reach their connections.
The PTU loom should now reach the nose area easily, passing through a hole alongside radiator and be zip-tied where necessary to avoid chafe or damage from fan blade.

5. Before reconnecting loom to PTU, it is a good idea to weatherproof the connectors (internally) with a liberal amount of silicon grease. NB: I have a vented nose panel & have never experienced any problem with moisture ingress, with or without silicon grease.
